How we manufacture

Akvaton: manufacturing in Rivne since 1991

Our factory in Rivne — near the EU border — runs the full production cycle under one roof: copper and aluminium drawing, enamelling, special insulation, film winding. Lines by MAG Maschinen, SAMP, NEWTECH and Ridgway Machines.

Every batch passes a three-stage check in our in-house laboratory: incoming (rod), intermediate (geometry, insulation) and outgoing (electrical tests) — per the IEC 60317 and IEC 60851 standards.

Production cycle

Every stage of the technological process — on modern European equipment with full quality control.

  1. 01

    Raw material inspection

    Every batch of copper and aluminium rod undergoes a laboratory check: purity, cross-section, resistivity.

  2. 02

    Drawing

    SAMP (Italy) drawing lines reduce the rod to the required diameter — Ø 0.16–2.5 mm round and up to 12×4 mm rectangular.

  3. 03

    Enamelling

    MAG Maschinen (Austria) enamelling units apply polyurethane, polyesterimide and polyamide insulation in TI 130–220 °C classes.

  4. 04

    Special insulation

    NEWTECH (Italy) lines for extrusion and glass-fibre winding; Ridgway Machines (UK) — film-winding systems for high-voltage applications.

  5. 05

    Laboratory control

    Electrical insulation tests (breakdown voltage), heat resistance, adhesion, geometric tolerances — per IEC 60317 and IEC 60851.

  6. 06

    Winding, marking, shipment

    Winding onto DIN spools or wooden drums to the client's specification. Batch marking, certificate of compliance, test protocol — with every shipment.

Manufacturing Q&A

Technical details often asked by engineers and procurement managers — from the production cycle to quality control and traceability.

How long is the full production cycle — from rod to finished wire?

The standard cycle is 5–10 business days for standard items (drawing → enamelling → winding → testing → packaging). More complex configurations with glass-fibre or film insulation — 2–3 weeks. Exact lead times are set in the commercial offer for your volume.

How do you ensure wire diameter accuracy?

On SAMP (Italy) lines, diameter is monitored by real-time laser micrometers with 1 µm precision. Readings are logged into the batch journal — every metre of wire has a recorded actual cross-section. Tolerances — per IEC 60317, grade 1 (G1) or grade 2 (G2) at your choice.

Which insulation types are available?

We produce the full range of enamel coatings to IEC 60317:

  • Polyurethane (PUR) — TI 130 class, solderable without stripping;
  • Polyesterimide (PEI) — TI 180, baseline for most industrial motors;
  • Polyamide-imide (PAI) — TI 200, traction motors, heavy industry;
  • Double-coat PEI+PAI — TI 220, for critical applications.

Separately — special insulation: glass-fibre, polyimide film (Kapton), combined systems.

How is temperature controlled in the enamelling units?

MAG Maschinen units run a cascade of 3–5 drying zones, each with its own PID controller and thermocouples. Temperature in every zone is automatically adjusted to line speed and varnish type. Any deviation above ±5 °C — the system halts and alerts the operator.

Do you maintain batch traceability?

Yes. Every finished batch has a unique number linked to:

  • the rod certificate (input),
  • drawing-line log (speed, temperature, operator),
  • enamelling-unit log (drying zones, varnish type, varnish batch),
  • laboratory protocol (diameter, insulation, breakdown voltage, heat resistance).

In case of a claim — we restore the full batch history within 24 hours and pinpoint where the deviation could have occurred.

How often is laboratory equipment calibrated?

Per ISO 9001 requirements:

  • Micrometers and calipers — monthly, with accredited reference standards;
  • Electrical-test instruments (breakdown voltage, micro-ohmmeters) — quarterly;
  • Climate chambers (heat resistance, snap-cut, wrap-test) — every six months, accredited metrology service.

All calibration certificates are available to client auditors on request.

Do you run ageing and thermal-shock tests?

Yes — this is part of the standard test suite per IEC 60851:

  • Snap-cut — wire wound on a mandrel + 175–200 °C thermal shock to check insulation elasticity;
  • Wrap-test — insulation-to-conductor adhesion;
  • Heat-shock — ageing at elevated temperatures to predict service life;
  • Cut-through — insulation resistance to mechanical stress.

Test protocol ships with every consignment.

How many inspection stages does the product pass?

Three stages:

  • Incoming — every raw-material batch (copper/aluminium rod): purity, cross-section, resistivity, conformity to ASTM B49 / EN 1977;
  • In-process — on drawing lines (diameter, surface cleanliness) and enamelling (insulation thickness, defects);
  • Outgoing — every finished coil/spool: full electrical-mechanical check + protocol.
What is your production capacity?

Total capacity — about 180 tonnes/month of finished copper and aluminium enamelled wire on a 2-shift schedule, expandable to 260+ tonnes per month. We keep reserve capacity for priority orders of regular partners.

How is the finished product stored and packed?

Finished wire is wound onto DIN spools (standard sizes K125–K630), wooden drums for large batches, or custom packaging per the client’s specification (anti-corrosion films, polyethylene wraps, vacuum sealing). Stored in a warehouse with humidity controlled to 60% RH max. Details — on the Packaging page.

Do you recycle production waste?

Yes — we have our own MIZAR MAKINA (Türkiye) recycling line for cable and wire scrap. All trimmings, defective coils, and process residues are returned to the production cycle as secondary copper. This allows us to use up to 100% recycled copper for parts of the line with a low carbon footprint. According to our calculations, the product carbon footprint for 2025 is approximately 1.37 t CO₂ per tonne. Details — on the Ecology page.

How does your manufacturing differ from other Ukrainian producers?

Three key differences:

  • Full cycle under one roof — from rod drawing to winding and packaging. Most competitors only handle drawing or only enamelling.
  • In-house laboratory with the complete IEC 60317/60851 test suite — many manufacturers outsource this.
  • Premium European equipment (MAG Maschinen, SAMP, NEWTECH, Ridgway) — ensures consistent quality on par with European producers at a competitive Ukrainian price.
