Special insulation winding wire

This part of the catalogue covers the Novaton grades whose insulation is something other than enamel alone.

An enamelled conductor stops being the right answer in four situations: when the slot abrades the coating during winding, when the hot spot sits above 200 °C, when the coil is immersed in transformer oil, or when the surrounding atmosphere carries organic solvents. The insulation is then built from glass fibre, a polymer film wrap, a paper wrap, or enamel with a fibre overlay.

Akvaton has produced this wire in Rivne since 1991 to IEC 60317, with testing to IEC 60851 in its own laboratory and a test report for every batch.

Glass fibre, film, combined and paper insulated wire

• Novaton GlassLine 200 — glass covered winding wire: glass fibre with a glass-polyester impregnation. Copper conductor only.
• Novaton MultiLine — enamelled and glass fibre covered copper wire. The enamel film does the dielectric work, the fibre overlay the mechanical work. It is a two-layer construction, which is what purchasing documents usually mean by a multi layer or double insulated winding wire; it is not a reinforced triple-insulated safety wire. US specifications spell the enamel part “enameled”.
• Novaton FilmLine — film wrapped wire, insulated with polyamide-fluoroplastic film or Nomex aramid paper. Enquiries frequently arrive asking for Kapton insulated copper wire. Kapton is DuPont’s trade name for polyimide film, so send the specification and our engineers will confirm which FilmLine build matches it.
• Novaton PaperLine — paper covered wire.

Copper is the standard conductor throughout. MultiLine, FilmLine and PaperLine are also supplied in aluminium.

Technical parameters

Both profiles are drawn in every family, so glass fibre covered rectangular copper wire and film wrapped rectangular copper wire are catalogue positions rather than specials.

Heat shock is verified at 220 °C on the glass, combined and film grades. In the catalogue filter GlassLine 200 and FilmLine sit under 220 °C, MultiLine under 200 °C and PaperLine under 105 °C — so a specification calling for 220 °C points to the glass and film grades.

Classic marks are retained: PSDK / PSDKT / PSLDK, PETWSD / PETSD / PNTSD, PPTSD / PPIT and PB / PPB.

Where it is used

• Traction motors and heavy electrical engineering. GlassLine 200 and MultiLine — glass fibre insulated wire for high temperature motors, generators and electrical apparatus, where the winding is mechanically loaded as well as hot.
• Oil-immersed transformers and reactors. PaperLine is the paper insulated wire for oil filled transformers, high-voltage units included: thermal class 105 and 120 °C, a thin insulation wall and long service life.
• Dry-type transformers. With no oil to carry heat away, these are normally wound from the glass fibre or combined families rather than the paper ones. GlassLine 200 and MultiLine both list transformers among their applications.
• Submersible motors and aggressive environments. FilmLine — thermoplastic, resistant to heat shock and to organic solvents.

How to order

Everything here is made to specification, starting from your conductor size, thermal class and spool type. Any grade can be produced to individual technical parameters.

Standard packaging is wooden spools: K400, K500 and K630 for GlassLine 200; K400 and K500 for MultiLine and FilmLine; K500 and K630 for PaperLine, which also ships on 800/36 and 500/36 spools. DIN spools K125–K630 and wooden drums are available across the range.

Minimum quantity for standard positions is 3 kg in Ukraine and 20 kg in the EU. There is no price list — the figure follows the LME copper quotation, then depends on technical parameters, batch size and delivery terms, so it is quoted against a concrete specification.
